We have had quite a busy year in this class! My apologies as the daily posts slowed down due to my broken foot, my time has been limited.
We have made some AWESOME castles in our class and have calculated the surface area and volume of all the shapes involved in making it! We have also made a class math trivia game full of questions from all of the topics we have covered this year! Our FINAL EXAM is an EXIT INTERVIEW Happening on TUESDAY JUNE 20th in our BLOCK 4 double block - which is in the afternoon. PLEASE ensure that you are present for your final, as it is necessary for completion of the course and is worth 10% of your grade.

We have been working on our CASTLE PROJECT.
By now, students have completed their castle designs and are well into building their castle models. Our goal is to be working on our calculations by the end of this week - and finishing up next week, so that we can move forward into our FINAL project of the semester :) Over the past couple of weeks we have explored the world of triangles and are now shifting into our Measurement and Conversions unit!
We eased our way in with area and perimeter of rectangles and triangles and we are now starting our next big project.....CASTLES! Students will design and build castles that must include numerous 3D geometrical shapes. They will be required to calculate the volume and surface area of these shapes as well as convert some of their measurements from inches to centimeters. It's going to be fun! :) We have been exploring the world of trigonometry SOH CAH TOA this week and will continue to do so for the rest of the week!
We have been working on our latest project - KITES! Students researched the history of kites and how they work, then designed a kite which had to include at least 2 right triangles. Students had to prove using Pythagorean theorem that they were indeed right triangles. Then they could move forward and build their kites. Today we will be testing out our kites outside! :)
Apologies as I missed a few of my daily updates last week.
From Tuesday-Thursday last week we worked towards finishing all of the triangle worksheets we have been doing. Including Pythagorean theorem and an introduction to SIN COS TAN. It was important to have these completed as report cards are coming soon. Friday was a holiday. Today we started some more triangle work. We have been doing Pythagorean theorem and have just started Sin, Cos and Tan relationships.
We are working towards our kite project! Today was our AUCTION!! We bid on items using our financial project money!
Then we enjoyed puzzles and games day :) Today we finished the triangles booklets and talked about our Auction that is happening TOMORROW! :)
We continued triangles today and heard about the Trades Sampler program!
